CIF Press Release: CIF Meets with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Sun Chanthol

On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, California Investment Forum (CIF) Chairman Daniel Sieu led senior CIF members in an important meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Sun Chanthol at the Cambodian Consulate in California. This meeting was part of the Cambodia Investment Roadshow to the U.S. and Canada, aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and investment between Cambodia and California.

The event began with opening remarks by Honorary Consul General Kim Chha Hout, followed by a welcome speech from Hon. Fiona Ma, California's 34th State Treasurer. Treasurer Ma highlighted the significance of international cooperation and underscored the vast opportunities for collaboration in clean energy, real estate, and technology.

Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Sun Chanthol gave a comprehensive presentation on Cambodia’s strategic investment environment, focusing on the country's strong economic growth and its commitment to developing infrastructure and ports. His speech set the stage for discussions on expanding cooperation between Cambodia and the U.S.

CIF Chairman Daniel Sieu also delivered a welcome address, reaffirming CIF’s dedication to facilitating investment opportunities between Cambodia and California. The meeting emphasized CIF's role in fostering international collaboration and economic growth through targeted investment matchmaking and resource integration.

During the discussions, both sides addressed the ongoing  pump storage projects in California and Cambodia, highlighting these initiatives as key opportunities for clean energy development and further collaboration between the two regions.

The Cambodian delegation introduced investment opportunities in various sectors:

- H.E. Mr. Gui Anvanith Advisor Chairman of the Board Council for the Development of Cambodia, Foreign Trade Bank of Cambodia. 

- H.E. Mr. Sok Khavan, Secretary of State, Ministry of Mines and Energy.

- H.E. Mr. Boun Sarakmony, Secretary of State, Ministry of Commerce.

- H.E. Mr. Suon Sophal, Deputy Secretary General, Cambodian Investment Board, Council for the Development of Cambodia.

A highlight of the event was the conversation between Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol and CIF Executive Committee Member Jason A. Gahari, both of whom worked at G.E Capital for over 10 years. They shared insights on global business development and leadership.

Dr. Paul A. Courtney, Mayor of Barstow, and Ling Sieu, Forum Director of CIF and Public Relations & Outreach Specialist for California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, played vital roles in ensuring productive dialogue between all stakeholders.

Both sides reached a consensus to increase exchanges and visits in the future, further strengthening cooperation between Cambodia and California.
