Steven Sterman

Senior Managing Director,
UC Investments

Sterman holds the esteemed position of Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of Private Equity at the University of California. In this capacity, he shares oversight for the University's substantial portfolio, encompassing venture, growth equity, and buyout funds amounting to $14 billion, along with co-investments. He plays a pivotal role in UC Investments by spearheading direct investments within the University's ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship. 


Prior to assuming this position, Mr. Sterman served as the Head of Fixed Income and Private Credit. He commenced his tenure at the University of California in 2012 following a successful career at TIAA-CREF, where he held the title of Managing Director and contributed significantly to the fixed income leadership team. During his two-decade tenure at TIAA-CREF, Mr. Sterman fulfilled various roles within fixed income investment functions, including credit research, trading, and portfolio management.


Sterman is an alumnus of Brandeis University, where he obtained a B.A. in economics, and the Stern School of Business, where he earned an M.B.A.
